Call for Articles Theme 2: STEM - Future Warfare Technologies

By The Cove April 16, 2021

We are on the cusp of publishing a great selection of articles submitted by you aligned to Theme 1: Knowing yourself and others as a leader, a topic linked to the conduct of the Brisbane Cove Conference on 27-30 April 21.

Concurrently; we are forging ahead and planning for Theme 2: STEM - Future Warfare Technologies, linked to the Melbourne Cove Conference occurring on 23 June 21. Similar to the Call for Articles we released earlier this year, we are looking to you to make a submission in line with this theme.

If you have something to say about how or where Army should build capability for the future battlespace, it's your time to share your thoughts. Some possible topics include:

  • Robotics
  • Autonomous systems
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Cyber
  • Big data
  • Novel technologies in training

If you’re not quite sure where to start, check out some of the great articles published in The Cove's War Room: Future Operating Environment for inspiration.

Alternatively, while science fiction is not considered PME by some, there can be merit to it. Science fiction forces us to imagine what is possible and it is where ideas for prototypes for future warfare may be born. Here is a great example. So, if sci-fi is your thing - now is your chance to share your perspective.

Publication of the best content will occur between 21 June – 02 July 2021 and used as pre-reading and discussion points during the Melbourne Cove Conference.

                                                                   Submissions close on 14 June!

If writing is not your thing - don’t be discouraged! We are accepting multimedia submissions in the form of short podcasts (2-7 minutes) or videos (2-8 minutes).Your observations and experiences are as valid as a fancy tertiary piece of paper. So share what you know, think and feel. What we appreciate is your level of analysis and critique on your chosen idea. Not sure you can do it alone? Grab a buddy or respected colleague and submit a collective piece.

Submit via: 'Make a submission' on The Cove homepage, or contact us soldiercove [at] gmail.com.

Still not convinced you can come up with something so fast? Here are our future themes and dates to give you some thinking space:

  • August – Reflections by Senior Soldiers for Junior Soldiers
  • September - High Performance Thinking
  • October – Contemporary Tactical Lessons From Significant Australian Battles

If you're still not persuaded to make a submission, consider exploring the COVE+ unit in line with the STEM theme. Perhaps Introduction to Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Virtual and Augmented Reality in Training, or Robotics. Login to ADELE(U) to get going.

We're excited to create a space where you can value add to your own, and others, Professional Military Education. You will never really know what impact your thoughts may have on someone else, unless your willing to share them. We encourage you in 2021 to use The Cove as the platform to increase the reach for sharing what you know.
