PME for your PARBy The Cove February 15, 2021
Ongoing professional military education (PME) is encouraged for everyone in Army, regardless of rank or corps. We understand how you choose to develop yourself will vary depending on your interests, commitments and professional goals. As one of the avenues for your professional development we strongly encourage you to consider Cove + as a way to incorporate PME into your PAR goals this year.
Cove+ offers a 100% online, self-paced program so you can learn anytime, anywhere, at no cost. Modules vary in length from 10 – 40 hours to complete across 5 categories:
- The Art and Science of Thinking
- The Art and Science of War
- Leadership, Ethics and Society
- Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
- Organisational Management, Projects and People.

Not convinced? Click here for a list of 70 units currently available. We’re confident something will spark your interest.
You will first have to complete the Reflective Practice module which links to The Cove’s Reflective Journal App (available on Google Play and the App Store). But wait … don’t be discouraged! You can spend as little or as much time making your way through this module as you like.
So, why did we do this? Because reflecting gives you an opportunity to pause, sort through observations, information and experiences and create new meaning. It is a foundational skill upon which all learning should occur and a habitual practice that we encourage.
If the current Cove+ modules don’t appeal to you – watch this space. We have more interesting topics on the way! If online modules aren’t your thing, why not make a submission to The Cove?
Your submission to The Cove (written or multi-media) should demonstrate critical thinking and clearly communicated ideas. We encourage any topic relating to the Profession of Arms, and/or a piece that demonstrates insightful reflection that will benefit a wide audience. Submissions can be made at https://cove.army.gov.au/
The achievement of one, or both, of these PME goals could provide a useful means to share your knowledge and improve your potential. PME in your PAR – set a goal to improve your, and Army’s, intellectual edge.
