Stryker Mounted Counter-UAS Laser System

By Tom McDermott February 13, 2019

We've posted a number of covesources in #WarToday about the growing tactical threat of commercially available and home-grown UAS.

But now military industry is fighting back, and not just with passive weapons. This video from Defense and Security Web TV shows an operational test of a General Dynamics Land Systems laser weapon.

The weapon, which is mounted on a Stryker and delivers a 5 kilowatt laser, is primarily designed to shoot down UAS. In the video you can see the power of the laser, as it tracks and ignites the tail of the target UAS.

This is a high-tech solution. What other lower tech methods might we use to defeat the growing UAS threat, particularly in unconventional operations?
