This year's Junior Leaders Forum was hosted by Mr Tim Gellel, Head of Australian Army History Unit during the recent Chief of Army Symposium in Melbourne. Looking through the prism of the Battle of Buna, we gain insight into lessons learned from the perspective of two armies involved in the Kokoda campaign.

Deputy Chief of Army MAJGEN Chris Smith, DSC, AM, CSC provides valuable insight into the 18th Brigade's experience in the lead up to the Battle of Buna, with particular regard to the challenges they faced.

We then hear from MG Dave Womack, Commanding General, US Army Japan, who provides us with his perspective of the preparations made by the 32nd Division, who were ill-prepared for the battle they were about to face.
