This is a personal account of the author’s time in the 4th Battalion The Somerset Light Infantry northwest Europe in 1944-45 as an infantry platoon commander. A rather slim volume, it has nevertheless been a staple of military reading lists since it was published in 1987 as a case study of small-unit leadership in combat.
