The Battle of Milne Bay_Front cover

The Battle of Milne Bay was a Second World War battle against the Japanese to protect Port Moresby. The book examines the strategic value of Port Moresby and the role that Milne Bay played in protecting this. The Allied airbase that was constructed in secret was discovered by the Japanese and they despatched a taskforce to destroy and occupy the base. Australian soldiers and militia fought to protect the base and helped shift the balance of the Pacific War to the Allies’ favour.
