Major Lynn (retired) was conscripted into the Australian Army in 1967 and deployed to Vietnam as a Plant Operator. He would continue to serve in the Army and graduate from Officer Cadet School, Portsea as well as Army Staff College, Fort Queenscliff.

After leaving the Army, Major Lynn led a distinguished career as a Special Events Organiser, a politician with NSW Parliament and Trek Leader for Adventure Kokoda. He later developed the Kokoda Youth Leadership Challenge and was appointed to the Board of the Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway at Concord.
