Major Isaac Williams enlisted in the Australian Army in 2004, allocated to the Royal Australian Engineers (RAE) as a Sapper. He posted to the 1st Combat Engineer Regiment (1 CER), Darwin, where he remained until commencing training at the Royal Military College – Duntroon (RMC-D) in January 2012.
While posted to 1 CER, Major Williams deployed with Rifle Company Butterworth 75 in 2006, promoted to Lance Corporal in 2007, and in 2008 Major Williams completed the Dari/Farsi language course at the ADF School of Languages. Major Williams deployed on Operation SLIPPER - Mentoring and Reconstruction Task Force 1 (08/09), and Mentoring Task Force 2 (10/11), where he was awarded a Bronze Commendation for his service as a High Risk Engineer Search Section Commander.
Major Williams deployed within a Whole of Government Task Force on Operation AMULET for CHOGM in Perth WA, 2011.
On graduation from RMC-D in June 2013, Major Williams received the tactics award and allocated to RAE. Post Regimental Officer Basic Course, on which he was awarded Student of Merit, Major Williams completed the RAE Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) courses.
On arrival at the 2nd Combat Engineer Regiment in 2014, Major Williams undertook Joint operations on OP PARAPET for the G20 meeting in Brisbane, then Ready Battle Group responsibilities, and in 2016 fulfilled Adjutant 2 CER and Reconnaissance Officer 2 CE Sqn.
In 2017 Major Williams commanded 1 Troop (EOD), at the 20th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Squadron, employed as the Divisional Engineer Liaison Officer to the Commander Landing Forces, Amphibious Task Group and EOD Command Liaison afloat.
In 2018 Major Williams posted to Army Headquarters - Land Capability Division, with remit across all Combat Engineer Capability Management, including Project Land 155 Enhanced Gap Crossing Capability and Project Land 154 –Joint Counter IED. Major Williams represented Army at the 2018 Centenary of ANZAC commemorations in Amiens, France. In 2019 he represented Army in the US for the ABCANZ Army annual meeting, and the US, UK and Israel during Defence Industry engagement.
Posting to HQ RMC-A as SO3 Army Leadership, Centre for Australian Army Leadership in 2020-21 MAJ Williams had remit in planning, implementation and delivery of the Australian Army Leadership Program, and wider Army leadership, character and ethics development, and support to the re-write of Defence leadership doctrine.
Major Williams posted to 5 ER in 2022 as Sqn 2IC and OPSO, and deployed on OP Flood Assist 01/22, supporting communities in their time of need and reconnected with foundational RAE skills, enabling the Joint Force to live, move, fight and win.
In ‘23/24 MAJ Williams is Officer Commanding Romani Company at RMC-Duntroon, with ambition to ethically lead, coach and mentor through influence, and enable trust and humility in command, while shaping the future leaders of character in Army.
Isaac is married to Kate who is a talented artist and at home with their three young boys, Leonardo (8), Amadeus (5) and Hubert (3). Isaac enjoys outdoor pursuits such as fishing, hunting and hiking and is also an avid player and follower of Australian Rules football, supporting the Carlton Football Club. Isaac recently completed a Masters of Strategy and Security through the University of New South Wales.
