The Serving Country exhibition by Belinda Mason and Dieter Knierim, acknowledges and recognises the valuable contribution by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women have made to the Australian Defence Force.
The full exhibition has over 180 digital images, stories and personal quotes in its collection. It was first shown in 2014 at the VIVID Festival Wartime Legends light show at Sydney University and has been on an extended tour of the country ever since. The Serving Country website has details on the where it has been and where it is going.
For the past few months the Australian Army Museum of New South Wales has had on display 43 of the images of Serving Country at Victoria Barracks, Sydney. The selected portraits are all of indigenous men and women from New South Wales. If you intend to visit the Museum to see this wonderful display you need to be quick, as at the end of July the exhibition will be packed up and sent to Queensland.
