Major Rebecca Conway is the Officer in Charge – Training Systems and Design at the Warrant Officer and Non Commissioned Officer Academy (WONCO-A) at Canungra. WONCO-A is the centre of excellence for the All Corps Soldier Training Continuum. WONCO-A leads, trains and mentors our trainees on the skills, knowledge, attitudes and behaviours of being a leader in the ADF.
About the author: Jack Jones is a junior officer in the Royal Australian Corps of Transport. He is posted to 35 Water Transport Squadron, 10 Force Support Battalion where he has been employed as an Operations Lieutenant and Troop Commander. A career highlight for Jack was commanding the Amphibious Beach Team during the tactical amphibious lodgment of the Blue Force into Exercise Hamel 18.
Spencer Jones currently is a Senior Lecturer in Armed Forces and War Studies at the University of Wolverhampton. He is also the Regimental Historian for the Royal Regiment of Artillery. Dr Jones’ key works include the award-nominated From Boer War to World War: Tactical Reform of the British Army 1902 - 1914 and the edited collection Stemming the Tide: Officers and Leadership in the British Expeditionary Force 1914 which was runner-up for the 2013 Templer Medal.
The authors of this articles composed the content during their time at the Australian Defence Force Academy under the guidance and ingenuity of their Officer Commanding, Major Newham. The authors are all history students across the Army, Navy, and Airforce and have since graduated the Academy in 2022.
