Series 2 – Mind

The second series of Body, Mind & Soul is Mind. Over ten episodes, this series will explore topics relating to psychological issues and mental wellbeing. Each episode will focus on a different subject or condition. Series 2 – Mind will cover:

Presenter

Series 2 – Mind is presented by Lieutenant Colonel Samantha Hodges. At the time of publishing LTCOL Hodges is the Staff Officer Grade 1 Psychology at Headquarters Forces Command, where she provides specialist decision and command support to training, operational, joint, and whole-of-government environments. LTCOL Hodges holds a Bachelor of Psychology with Honours, a Master of Clinical Psychology and is currently completing a Graduate Certificate in Global Health. She is also a PhD student at the University of Queensland. She is the co-author of three published military research papers presented at international conferences on the topics of sub-syndromal PTSD, the mental health of unmanned aerial vehicles, and the efficacy of telehealth.

Episode 1 – Stress

In this episode we discuss what stress is, what are some of the tips to managing stress, who can help and how the chain of command can assist.

 

Episode 2 – Sleep

In this episode we discuss the importance of sleep to our wellbeing, how much sleep we actually need, along with how to get a better nights sleep.

 

Episode 3 – Anger Management

In this episode we discuss the consequences of not managing anger, some tips to manage anger and who can help.

 

Episode 4 – Pain Management

In this episode we discuss the link between the mind and pain, some tips to manage pain along with who can help.

 

Episode 5 – Depression

In the episode we discuss the symptoms of depression, how to treat it and how Defence will manage members with depression.

 

Episode 6 – Anxiety

In this episode LTCOL Hodges helps us understand what anxiety is, the symptoms and how to manage anxiety.

 

Episode 7 – Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

In this episode we discuss PTSD, the causes, symptoms, how it is treated and how Defence will manage members with PTSD.

 

Episode 8 – Goal Setting

In this episode we discuss the psychological importance of setting goals, some alternatives to SMART goals and how the chain of command can assist.

 

Episode 9 – Social Media

In the episode we discuss the positives and negatives of social media and some tips on its use.

 

Episode 10 – Resilience

In the final episode of this series we discuss resilience and in particular what can add to it, but also undermine it.
