Over half of the world population live in urban areas, with megacities becoming a challenging real-life consideration. This unit will examine the planning for, conduct and operational dynamics of urban operations in the context of modern warfare and review historical examples throughout history. It will focus on what military urban operations achieve; principles for conduct and limitations; and the influence of technology on the conduct of operations in urban areas. This unit is aimed at students seeking to establish a foundation understanding of military operations in modern urban terrain.
