Are you on the Road to Exercise Talisman Sabre / Hamel?

If so the 7th Brigade (7 Bde) Hybrid Warfare Symposium series of videos may be able to help you on that path.

Last year 7 Bde filled the role of Opposing Force (OPFOR) during Ex HAMEL 16. To reflect a range of adversaries the OPFOR included a conventional Battle Group (BG), a hybrid BG and an element tasked with providing unconventional warfare.

A post-exercise Hybrid Warfare Symposium was held to provide an update on developments in hybrid warfare and examine the most salient lessons learnt from Ex HAMEL 16. Expert advice was provided by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) and the Australian Defence College.

The follow-up symposium was videoed by the team at the Army Learning Production Centre (ALPC).  To assist you on the Road to Ex TS 17 the Cove will be re-sharing these videos.

First in these presentations are the Opening Remarks presented by Brigadier Rawlins (Commander 7th Brigade) and Mr Peter Jennings (Executive Director ASPI).  They set the scene for the discussion to follow and finish with asking:

Hybrid warfare - is this a thing?

Hybrid warfare - how should we deal with it?

While watching these videos some things that you may like to consider are:

  • Is hybrid warfare something you need to think about for Ex TS 17?
  • Is hybrid warfare a new concept or has it always existed?
  • Do we need to change our TTP to better address contemporary and emerging adversary capabilities?
